Milton CAT and Casella Waste: A Comprehensive Alliance

Throughout our years of operation, Milton CAT has had the opportunity to connect with many customers and become an involved, trusted partner in many facets of their businesses. Casella Waste Systems, Inc. is one customer with which we have built a strong rapport.

For over 40 years, Casella has been providing innovative and sustainable resource solutions to the Northeast. The Chairman and CEO, John Casella, built up the company with his brother, Doug Casella.

Throughout high school, Doug worked to buy a pickup truck so he could collect garbage around Rutland, VT. Their core operations are now spread across six states: Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, New York, Massachusetts, and Pennsylvania. Although they have expanded quite a bit since their pickup truck days, they still maintain that early Vermont spirit with quality, sustainable service.

Milton CAT and Casella have been developing their relationship based on trust and mutual understanding for the past five years. An obvious match, both companies’ values align seamlessly. We are both solutions-based companies that recognize the value of teamwork and involvement in local communities.

Joe Shattie, the Sales Manager of our Richmond, VT, store, explains, “We’re doing business in a different way with Casella. We are taking a team approach to the relationship and finding solutions that benefit both businesses. Of course, Milton CAT sells Casella waste management machines, but the value we provide to them is greater than equipment alone. We provide them with Job Site Solutions, product support, SITECH Northeast machine automation, training assistance, and marketing collaboration.”

Milton CAT and Casella’s relationship has been a productive partnership. Job Site Solutions ensure safe and productive machine operation. Milton CAT’s training team, led by Jason Hibbard and Ben Thirkield, assisted Casella in improving their training program.

Representatives from both companies meet quarterly to continue gaining a better understanding of one another and improve efficiency. The teams have formed a trusting bond which enables this relationship to be strong and mutually beneficial. Many Milton CAT and SITECH Northeast employees from across our territory support Casella. Thank you to all the individuals involved; it truly is a team effort to make this comprehensive alliance strong. You have done great work!

Both companies rose to the occasion at the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic. We are proud to say that our teams adapted to meet the health and safety requirements while continuing to deliver outstanding service. Milton CAT delivered, trained, and implemented the use of D6 dozers with waste handler packages at Casella’s Northern VT landfill without physical contact. Through videos, 17 Casella employees were trained on start-up, shutdown, and maintenance procedures. It was a great learning experience for both organizations, and we continue to develop our socially distant services.

Thank you again to the dedicated team that makes the Milton CAT and Casella Waste Systems relationship exceptional!
